QMERC Committee
Queen Mary Ethics of Research Committee is a committee of Senate. QMERC advises on University research ethics policies and provide a source of advice on ethical issues arising from their implementation. QMERC oversees the six review panel who provide independent consideration of applications for research ethics approval for studies involving human participants.
Membership of QMERC Main Committee
QMERC is made up of an external independent member as Chair, an internal member of academic staff (Deputy Chair), a representative of Queen Mary senior leadership team, or their nominee and up to fourteen academic staff members, including three from each of the three Faculties of the University.

There are 6 ethics panel. Each consisting of at least 8 members, with representatives from each faculty, professional services, a student member and external independent members.

Meeting Dates
Low-risk reviews can be submitted at any time; the below QMERC meeting deadlines are only applicable to moderate and high-risk studies which require Panel Review. When submitting applications for Panel Review, please note that meeting slots fill quickly and applications submitted close to the deadline may have to wait until the following meeting.

All Review Panel meetings will involve a research ethics review of applications submitted. The Main QMERC Committee is concerned with discussing matters of policy as well as research that is complex, unusual or high-risk.
